Luna public forum October 8 in Seattle

Orca Network has organized a public forum on the plan to reintroduce L-98 (Luna) back to his pod and home waters from Nootka Sound, B.C, where he has lived the past two years. Co-sponsors of the forum are the Seattle Aquarium and People for Puget Sound. The forum will be held at the Seattle Aquarium, Wednesday, October 8th, at 7 p.m. and the public is invited and encouraged to attend and participate.

The purpose of the forum is to offer interested citizens and organizations a chance to hear details of the Intervention and Relocation Action Plan for Luna from Canada's Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans and NOAA Fisheries. Marilyn Joyce will be representing DFO, and Joe Scordino will speak on behalf of NOAA Fisheries. Also included in the evening will be a short presentation on Luna's life in Nootka Sound by Marc Pakenham of the Luna Stewardship Project; and Mike Bennett, president of the NW Whale Watch Operators Association will speak on behalf of Whale Watch Operators in the US and Canada.

The last half of the evening will be an opportunity for the public to ask questions of the presenters, and to have a positive, cooperative forum for sharing of information and support from those who wish to assist in the effort to bring Luna home.

The Seattle Aquarium is located on Pier 59 on the waterfront at 1483 Alaskan Way, Seattle WA. For more information about the Forum, contact Orca Network at (360) 678-3451 or at info@orcanetwork.org.
